Multimedia artiste (with an "e") Perry Barton was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1959. The youngest of five children, he was surrounded by the sounds of pop and rock music (with a smattering of country) from the beginning.

At seven he began taking organ lessons, and by eleven he was writing and recording his own stuff. He was also creating his own art—with Flair pens, Spirographs, Lite-Brites (hey, it was the 60s)—and already displaying an affinity for bright, colorful, geometric, abstract works.

In high school, he sang in the chorus, acted in plays, and formed a band. The latter was as close to "cool" as he ever managed to get. He also began to experiment with 8mm film. In a summer honors program, he wrote, produced, and directed a satirical soap opera ("All My Problems"), shot on a then-costly 3/4" black and white reel-to-reel videotape recorder.

While earning his BS in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech, Perry studied computer programming, soon writing a FORTRAN application which generated personalized calendars featuring an ASCII rendering of Mickey Mouse. He found this infinitely more enjoyable than the actual coursework. At the same time, he was learning the art of multi-track recording, in a friend's 4-track studio.

After graduating in 1981, he began his career as a professional live and studio musician, much to the dismay of his parents. In the 90s, he added web design and scripting to his list of skills, developing sites for commercial and nonprofit clients. In 1996, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, much to the dismay of himself.

Today, Perry continues to explore the creative areas that have always engaged him, most often from the comfort of his home studio. He still writes and records his own stuff, as well as composing and producing music for radio and TV ads. He directs, shoots, and edits the occasional music video and short film. He creates the striking abstract artwork you see in this online gallery, using a unique technique he developed himself. And he writes bios about himself in the third person.
